Judge Gerald Francis Flood was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 31, 1898. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to the Officers’ Training Camp in Fortress Monroe, Virginia. Judge Flood served for two years. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania for both undergraduate and law school, graduating as president of his class with his Bachelor of Laws degree. Judge Flood rounded out his education in 1938, when he earned his Doctor of Laws from La Salle College.
Judge Flood was a member of Clark, Clark, McCarthy, & Wagner in Philadelphia for five years. From 1935 to 1937, he served as special Deputy Attorney General. Judge Flood was elected to the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas (in 1937) and was reelected in both 1947 and 1957. Additionally, he served as a judge advocate in the Pennsylvania National Guard for two years during his tenure on the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas.
In 1960, Judge Flood was elected to the Superior Court. He served until his death on December 26, 1965. Throughout his career, Judge Flood served on the American Bar Association’s Advisory Committee on Sentencing and Review; the Appellate Judges Committee, Section of Judicial Administration; and the Civil Rules Committee of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
